The EIDC is tracking and analyzing how the federal government makes policy decisions, allocates funds to combat climate change and address environmental justice. Part of this effort includes partnering with federal agencies to produce cutting-edge research to analyze the impact of current programs and determine areas where additional impact can be made. We equip fellow researchers, policymakers and advocates through accessible data and example analyses.

Climate & Economic Justice Screening Tool

The Biden Administration’s Justice40 Initiative is key to a number of projects we are working on. This dataset allows for researchers to identify environmental and economic factors at the Census tract level, including whether a tract is eligible for Justice40 spending.

Electric School Bus (ESB) Adoption in the United States

This dataset tracks electric school bus (ESB) adoption across the United States. It tracks the number of “committed” ESBs at the school district level, as well as details about individual buses, including the bus manufacturer and funding source(s). This datasetalso tracks when each ESB passed through the phases of the adoption process and the current phase of each bus.

Projects

Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

The EIDC is working in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families to support the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The program provides over 6 million low-income households with assistance on heating, cooling, or energy crisis costs.
